The Daniel Fast
In it’s purist form, The
Daniel Fast consists of eating only fruits, vegetables, and drinking water or
juices.
Its purpose is to deny
certain foods for physical and spiritual cleansing.
As a Biblically-based fast, it
is a time to commune with God.
There are two anchoring scriptures in Daniel for this fast:
In Daniel 1:12, Daniel ate only vegetables (which would include fruits) and drank only water.
In Daniel 1:12, Daniel ate only vegetables (which would include fruits) and drank only water.
In Daniel 10:3, it is recorded that he "ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched his lips."
From these verses are derived an acceptable list of foods:
- All fruits and vegetables
- All legumes
- Whole grains
- Nuts and seeds
- Tofu
- Herbs and spices.
The Daniel Fast is a
very healthy way to eat! However, if you
have any health issues, I encourage you to check with your doctor to see if you
need modifications. Fasting should never
bring harm to the body.
