Orange Juice/Ginger Tonic

Orange Juice/Ginger Tonic

This is a great way to start the morning, with a burst of vitamin C and antioxidants.  Credit for this one goes to where credit is due, my youngest daughter, Mary.  I’m not sure where she came upon it, probably word of mouth.  She has friends who are all over the health stuff.  It’s been a great source of information for me!

Anyway, back to the subject at hand.  This is a recipe that is very much suited to your individual tastes.  No measuring here.  Start out with a good quality orange juice; we prefer one not made from concentrate.  Next, grab a handful of ginger, and some extra virgin, cold-pressed olive oil.

Pour the orange juice into a good blender.  I use a vitamix and love it.  I’m sure there are other equally topnotch machines out there, but I am very happy with what I have.  I ordered a refurbished machine and that knocked down the price a little.  Now, peel the ginger, chop it a bit, and add to the juice in the blender.  I like a good, strong ginger taste so I use a healthy handful.  You may want to work with the amount more gradually as it is a very strong flavor.  Let the blender pulverize and liquefy the ginger and mix it with the orange juice, then pour in some olive oil and blend again.  Good oil is essential to good health.  In this tonic, the oil has not been heated so is very beneficial.

Next step is to strain out the fibers from the ginger root.

Now, drink up, and drink to your good health!

I make 2 or 3 glasses at a time and put them in the fridge so I don’t have to go through the preparation again.
